The two ecclesiastical parishes of Springfield Boswells and Springfield Dukes once shared All Saints Church. Oliver Goldsmith, the poet, lived opposite in Duke's Cottage and another former resident, William Pynchon, became a leader of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, which adopted the name of Springfield in his honour.
