Sitting in the heart of Essex just 3 miles from Chelmsford can be found the beautiful village of Writtle, home to and inspiration for villagemugs.co.uk
With the view across the green to the village pond taking centre stage, scenic views of Aubyns - a timber framed house of Tudor origin, the Oast house - once a part of the former Writtle Brewery, Pump Cottage and All Saints Church, are all to be found just a few steps away.
Many artists have captured Writtle's charm in watercolour or oils but a memento that has a practical use, that makes a perfect gift for visitors and friends is difficult to find. With this in mind and inspired by the work of local artist David Schreiber we set out to fill the void with a small collection of 5 images, printed onto ceramic and porcelain mugs. Following the popularity of the Writtle designs, increasing the range to cover other towns and villages was a natural step and we now offer over 50 printed mugs covering other areas of Essex.
David's favoured 'Retro' style of painting, portraying well known views in vintage tones with some artistic adjustments, is complimented by a range of '30's Poster' style images, each featuring immediately recognisable scenes. We hope you like what you see and welcome your feedback and suggestions for towns, villages and buildings - memorable scenes you would like us to consider for future creation.
