The clap-boarded Townsford Mill straddles the Colne River on a site that has a history of mill buildings. This one was built in 1788 as a corn mill, then used for silk production with looms installed by Samuel Courtauld, who later converted them to steam power. Production ceased as late as 1982, and it is now the home of Halstead Antiques Centre.
